Selling to the EU from Thailand

You export from Thailand — Bangkok, Rayong, the Eastern Economic Corridor — into the European Union: garments, electronics, food products, automotive parts. Since 13 December 2024 almost every consumer product sold in the EU needs a Responsible Person inside the EU, and marketplaces enforce it by suspending listings. This page answers the questions Thai sellers ask.

Is there an EU–Thailand trade agreement? under negotiation

No, not in force. Negotiations were relaunched and are continuing; nothing applies today, so your goods pay the ordinary tariff. Watch the date if talks conclude — the preference is worth several percent on most manufactured goods.

Whether a preference actually applies is decided per product by the origin rule in the agreement, not by where the goods were shipped from. Rules of origin works that through, and the goods code decides which rule you are under. A claim without valid proof is recovered from the importer, three years back, with interest.

I sell from Thailand to the EU. Do I need an EU Responsible Person?

Yes. The Responsible Person must be established inside the EU — a Thai company cannot take the role. Most Thai exporters appoint a paid service, €200–800 per year per catalogue.

Does the Thai–EU trade relationship exempt me from anything?

No. Trade preferences affect customs duty only; product-safety rules apply regardless of the origin country's trade status. GPSR, CE, EPR and the Responsible Person sit on top of any tariff arrangement.

My Amazon listing was suspended. Why?

Most likely: no valid EU Responsible Person recorded against the listing. Marketplaces suspend listings that lack it — regardless of the product itself. Upload the Responsible Person in Seller Central under Manage Your Compliance.

What goes on the product or packaging?

Manufacturer and Responsible Person name and address, a product identifier, and warnings in the language of every country you sell into. A Thai-only label fails everywhere in the EU.
