GPSR compliance checklist
Fifteen checks, each with the article it rests on. Tick them in the browser (nothing is sent anywhere) or print the page and work on paper. Based on Regulation (EU) 2023/988 as verified on 3 September 2026.
A checklist sorts your work; it does not classify your product. Where an item makes you unsure, that is the moment for the
product check or the
provider list — not for guessing.
The fifteen
1. Responsible Person appointed Art. 16 An economic operator established in the EU, appointed in writing, named on the product or packaging. A UK entity does not qualify.
2. Responsible Person details visible to the buyer Art. 9(1) Name and postal address on the product, its packaging or an accompanying document — findable by the consumer and by authorities.
3. Manufacturer identified Art. 9(1) The manufacturer’s name and address are on the product too, plus a contact address if different from the Responsible Person’s.
4. Product traceability marking Art. 9(2) A type, batch or serial number that identifies the specific product — not just the model.
5. Warnings in the right languages Art. 9(4) Safety information and warnings in the language of every member state you sell into. One label is not enough for the whole EU.
6. Online listing carries the details Art. 9(4) In every online listing: the manufacturer’s and the importer’s (or Responsible Person’s) name and address, plus the product identifier. Marketplaces check this themselves.
7. Technical documentation exists Art. 8 A general risk assessment and technical file covering design, manufacture and the measures taken.
8. The file is held for ten years Art. 10(4) Kept by the Responsible Person (or the EU importer where applicable) and handed to authorities on request within 15 days.
9. Internal recall procedure Art. 10(1) A written procedure for recalls and other corrective measures, with named responsibilities.
10. Accident reporting route Art. 20 You know where to report: the market surveillance authority of each country where the product is available, immediately on learning of a danger.
11. Distance sales duties checked Art. 4, Art. 21 Selling online or dropshipping: the offer states the Responsible Person and the manufacturer, and the duties follow the seller of record — not the parcel.
12. Marketplace compliance fields filled marketplace policies Responsible Person, manufacturer and technical documentation uploaded in Seller Central (Manage Your Compliance) or the platform’s equivalent — before the listing, not after suspension.
13. Labels physically checked on arrival practice The goods that arrive carry what the file says: print legible, language(s) correct, identifiers matching the documentation.
14. Suppliers documented per SKU practice For each product: which factory, which documents, which version. Catalogues of a thousand items fail here first.
15. Next verification scheduled this site Checked on a date, noted with the source. Rules and lists change; a checklist without a date is an opinion.
