The questions, with answers
Does the deforestation regulation apply yet?
Not yet. After a delay confirmed in December 2025 it applies from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small enterprises. The original dates (December 2024 and June 2025) were postponed twice.

Which products are covered?
Cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood — plus derived products such as leather, chocolate, furniture, tyres and printed paper. The Annex lists them by HS code; if your commodity is in it, the rule reaches your supply chain.

What do I have to prove to import?
That the products are deforestation-free (produced on land not deforested after 31 December 2020), legal in the country of production, and covered by a due diligence statement submitted before customs — with geolocation of the plots of land they came from.

Do I really need geolocation data from my suppliers?
Yes — coordinates of the plots where the commodities were produced, not just an address. This is the slowest part to collect, which is why the delay is a gift: start collecting now, per supplier, per shipment.

I am a small importer — do I get the later date?
Micro and small enterprises get 30 June 2027, and simplified options such as the one-time simplified declaration exist. "Small" follows the EU SME definition (staff and turnover headcounts), not your own assessment.

What happens if I get it wrong?
Fines of at least up to 4% of your total annual EU turnover, confiscation of the products and of the revenues, and exclusion from public procurement for a period. The regulation names the penalties itself; member states enforce them.

Who can do this for me?
Sector consultancies in the provider list handle supply-chain due diligence; several specialise in exactly these commodities. Or ask for
three introductions via the quote form.
